From June 16 to 23, 2019, 22 law students from the University of Macau, City University of Macao, and Macau University of Science and Technology participated in the "Summer Internship Class for Macao Law Students”. They came to Beijing for a week-long study exchange and visit. On June 17, the opening ceremony of the internship class was held in conference room 209 of the Xueyuanlu Campus, CUPL. Prof. Shi Jianzhong, Vice President of CUPL, Inspector Pan Xiaoda and Researcher Wang Maoba from the Research Office of the Hong Kong and Macao Basic Law Committee of the NPC Standing Committee, Inspector Zhou Jun from the Law Department of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Zhou Jun, Deputy Director Wang Heng of the Law Department of the CPG Liaison Office in Macao SAR, Deputy Director Gao Zhen of the Law Department of Liaison Office in Macao SAR, Director Si Yanli of the Hong Kong and Macau Judicial Affairs Office of the Supreme People’s Court Research Office, Zhang Long from Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, and Xie Xiaohong from Beijing Office of the Government of the Macao SAR, etc. attended the opening ceremony.
Three well-known CUPL professors were invited to deliver lectures to the students on “the road to civil law codification”, “legal issues concerning overseas cultural relics”, and “Sino-US trade war and China’s economic development”. In addition, a prestigious professor was invited to discuss and exchange ideas with the students on the theory and practice of legal clinics.
CUPL also arranged visits to government agencies such as the Hong Kong and Macau Basic Law Committee of the NPC Standing Committee, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, and the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council. During the visit, the students listened carefully to the introduction and actively proposed questions, thus acquiring a deepened understanding of the important national conditions such as theadvancement of the rule of law, policies towards the Macao SAR, and the status of China’s education and cultural development.
