Summer Internship Class (in Beijing) for Hong Kong Law Students Successful Concludes

From June 2 to 16, the "Hong Kong Law Student Summer Internship Class" was carried out. The program this year was a two-week study exchange and visit event in Beijing. A total of 21 law students from the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong participated in the event. On June 3, the opening ceremony of the internship class was held at Xueyuanlu Campus, CUPL. Vice President of CUPL Shi Jianzhong, Inspector Pan Xiaoda of the Research Office of the Hong Kong and Macao Basic Law Committee of the NPC Standing Committee, Researcher Wang Maobai of the Research Office, Inspector Zhou Jun of the Law Department of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council attended the opening ceremony. Also present at the event were Deputy Director Yu Xuejie of the Law Department of the CPG Liaison Office in HKSAR, Zhao Zhenping, Chief of the Hong Kong and Macau Judicial Affairs Office of the Supreme People’s Court, Deputy Director Guo Mingcong of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, and Directors Shao Xinfa, Yuan Shuming, Project Director Wu Xiaomei of the Hong Kong Legal Education Fund Co., Ltd., as well as Hong Kong Senior Counsel Paul Lam Ting-kwok.

The informative lectures officially kicked off in the morning of the opening ceremony. With a view to help Hong Kong students fully comprehend the legal system and the current economic and cultural development of the mainland, 11 well-known CUPL professors were invited to give lectures on Chinese law, diplomacy, etc. Through face-to-face interaction with professors, Hong Kong students developed a better understanding of various aspects of the China’s development.

Apart from lectures, the internship class students also visited to the Hong Kong and Macau Basic Law Committee of the NPC, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council, the Beijing Office of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and the Beijing Internet Court. Through discussions and exchanges, students gained a direct and profound understanding of the important national conditions such as China’s rule of law construction, policies towards Hong Kong SAR, and the current status of education and cultural development.
