From April 12 to 19, at the invitation of the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China, a delegation led by Margherita Cassano, President of the Italian Supreme Court, paid an official visit to China. On April 15, the delegation visited China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), where President Cassano delivered a lecture. CUPL Council Chair Jiang Zeting and President Ma Huaide met with the delegation on behalf of CUPL. Accompanying the delegation were Stefano Mogini, Secretary General of the Italian Supreme Court, Massimo Ambrosetti, the Italian Ambassador to China, Duan Nonggen, Director of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Supreme People’s Court of PRC, and Lu Chunlong, Vice President of CUPL.

CUPL Council Chair Jiang Zeting extended a warm welcome to President Cassano and her delegation on behalf of all faculty and students of CUPL. He expressed his hope that President Cassano’s visit would serve as an opportunity to invite more experienced judges and prosecutors to teach at CUPL, further deepen cooperation with Italy in judicial matters and talent development, and cultivate more “Marco Polos” for the new era.

CUPL President Ma Huaide reflected on his November 2024 participation in the meeting between the two heads of state and representatives attending the Dialogue between Chinese and Italian University Presidents. He proposed enhanced collaboration with Italy’s legal community and jointly promote the exchange of civilizations, writing a new chapter in legal cooperation and exchanges.

During the visit, President Cassano delivered a lecture titled “The Role of the Supreme Court in the Italian Judicial System”, with Lei Lei, Dean of the Law School of CUPL, presiding over the event.
