From August 1 to 10, 2024, the 17th Forum of the world Association for Political Economy (WAPE) was successfully held across Greece, Hungary, and Serbia. During the opening ceremony, the winners of the 2024 “World Marxian Economics Award” and the “Distinguished Achievement Award in Political Economy for the Twenty-first Century” were announced. Prof. Tai Lihua of the school of Marxism at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) was honored with the latter award, in recognition of her significant contributions and groundbreaking advances in the study of Marxist economics.

Prof. Tai Lihua’s award-wining work, titled “Research on Generalized Western Marxist from the Perspective of Political Economy” (published in Political Economy Review, Issue No. 2, 2021), argues that generalized Western Marxism integrates and transcends the theories of narrow Western Marxism, including post-Marxism, neo-Marxism, and Marxology. Her research promotes a balanced development of the three main components of Marxism, fostering a harmonious relationship between foundational theoretical research and practical application research. Furthermore, her work revitalizes the study of political economy while underscoring the continued relevance of classical Marxist texts.

The forum was hosted by WAPE and co-organized by the Greek Association for Political Economy and Panteion University. WAPE is an international academic organization composed of Marxist economic scholars from around the globe. Its mission is to analyze and research global and national economies through the lens of modern Marxist economics, revealing their underlying laws and mechanisms. WAPE seeks to explore strategies for promoting economic development, social progress, and building a community with a shared future for humanity, ultimately aiming to improve global well-being. Since its founding, WAPE has held 16 successful international forums in cities such as Shanghai, Shimane, Beijing, and Paris, gaining significant academic influence worldwide.

The “Distinguished Achievement Award in Political Economy for the Twenty-first Century” was established by WAPE in 2009. It recognizes papers or works published since 2001 that have introduced significant theoretical innovations or methodological advancements in political economy, regardless of the language of publication. Winners receive a trophy and a certificate, aiming to encourage political economy scholars worldwide and contribute to the global development and prosperity of modern political economy.
