In the afternoon of May 16, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) held a meeting for the preparation of the university’s 70th anniversary celebration and to award outstanding alumni in the Complex Building at the Haidian Campus. CUPL Council Chair Hu Ming, President Ma Huaide, Vice President and President of the Alumni Association Feng Shiyong, and Vice President Li Xiuyun attended the meeting. Heads of relevant administrative offices, 73 outstanding alumni representatives from 34 provincial alumni branches and 18 representatives of career mentors attended the meeting. Other 22 overseas and domestic alumni branches in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and other provinces of China attended the meeting in a virtual format. The meeting was presided over by Lu Shaohua, Director of CUPL Alumni Office.
At the meeting, Vice President Feng Shiyong expressed cordial greetings and gratitude to alumni at home and abroad. He then reported on the work of the alumni office in 2020.
Li Huan, Deputy Director of CUPL Alumni Office, announced the lists of Outstanding Alumni, Five-Star Alumni Branches and Outstanding Alumni Workers of CUPL in 2020. Council Chair Hu Ming presented certificates to the awardees.
Tu Hua, an alumnus of grade 2009 and CCTV anchor, spoke as a representative of outstanding alumni. He thanked his alma mater for the award and for its all-round education, and said that he would follow “uphold the philosophy of CUPL wherever he goes”, and continue to contribute to future of his alma mater.
Professor He Lianming, President of the Alumni Branch in Japan, a 2020 Five-Star Alumni Branch, briefed through video speech on the work of the branch in COVID-19 prevention and control, non-profit programs and cooperation, career development for CUPL students, etc. He said that the alumni branch followed the university motto and actively contribute to national and social development, as well as serving CUPL alumni. He also conveyed, on behalf of overseas students and alumni, heartfelt thanks to their alma mater and their strong desire to contribute to their alma mater.
In order to strengthen the contact and bond between alumni and students, CUPL also held a ceremony to appoint career mentors. Vice President Li Xiuyun granted letters of appointment to representatives of career mentors.
Wang Xu, alumnus of grade 1997 and Director of Beijing Zhongjian Law Firm, read out the letter to call for donation for the 70th anniversary of CUPL and donated 700,000 RMB to support the development of the university. She called on all alumni to actively donate and offer love and blessings to CUPL, so as to join force and build CUPL into a world-class university with Chinese features at an early date.
On behalf of CUPL, President Ma extended his warm congratulations to the outstanding alumni, alumni workers and the alumni branch in Japan. He also expressed his heartfelt thanks to the alumni at home and abroad for their care and support. He pointed out that CUPL attached great importance to the work of alumni. Alumni are viewed as highlights and assets of the university. The contribution and reputation of alumni to society and the State is directly related to the development of the university, and vice versa. He highly praised the alumni’s work and contributions to the advancement of the rule of law, and to the society and to their alma mater during the fight against the epidemic.
