On May 13, CUPL held a ceremony for appointing distinguished experts of national high-end think tank incubator and a symposium on quality improvement of think tank researches at the Haidian Campus. CUPL President Ma Huaide, Vice President Shi Jianzhong, leaders, experts and scholars from the Research Office, the Graduate School, the School of Law, the Civil, Commercial and Economic Law School, the School of Criminal Justice, the School of Politic Science and Public Administration, the School of Humanities, the Internet Financial Law Institute, the Globalization and Global Issues Institute, the Capital Finance Institute, the School of Law-based Government, and other schools, institutes and administrative offices attended the meeting. The meeting was moderated by Zhang Wei, Executive Vice Dean of the Institute for Human Rights.

On behalf of CUPL, President Ma Huaide expressed his heartfelt thanks to the experts and scholars who accepted the appointments. He pointed out that, for the country and society, research outputs of think tanks are important references for major national and social decisions, as well as an important reflection of social responsibilities that the university should uphold; for schools and disciplines, the results are important indicators for discipline assessment and development; for experts and scholars, they are important in multi-dimensional evaluation and process assessment. He added that CUPL’s think tank initiative has already had a sound foundation in terms of policy support, team composition and platform structure. Notably, the Institute for Human Rights had been approved as one of the national high-end think tank incubators in 2017. President Ma also suggested all attendees work whole-heartedly and contribute to the high-quality think tank initiative of CUPL. After that, he awarded the appointment letters to the representatives of distinguished experts Wang Canfa, Liu Jipeng, Li Shuguang and Jiao Hongchang.

Regarding the Think Tank initiative of CUPL, Vice President Shi Jianzhong put forward two key words: opportunity and challenge. One the one hand, opportunities are presented as there are imminent and pressing core issues that need to be addressed. In fact, the results of think tanks are not only evaluation indicators for universities and disciplines, but also for individual researchers. On the other hand, think tanks are faced with multiple challenges in concepts, methods and organizations. He encouraged the experts to seize opportunities and embrace challenges and to contribute to building high quality think tanks in CUPL. After that, other participants expressed their views and discussed how to improve the quality of think tank researches.
