On the morning of May 16, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) marked the countdown to the grand celebration of its 70th birthday. The event was held in the auditorium of the Complex Building at the Haidian Campus. All university leaders, representatives of retired faculty and staff, representatives of council members and alumni, heads of schools and administrative offices, as well as representatives of faculty, staff and students witnessed this historic moment. The ceremony was presided over by Vice President Feng Shiyong.
President Ma Huaide delivered a speech. On behalf of CUPL, he extended heartfelt thanks to all the leaders, alumni and friends at home and abroad who had cared about and supported the development of CUPL. He also paid high tribute to all the predecessors who had contributed efforts and wisdom to CUPL. He then extended holiday greetings and best wishes to all faculty, staff and students. President Ma reviewed the history of CUPL in the past 69 years. He pointed out that on May 3, 2017, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited the CUPL, and delivered an important speech, providing a fundamental direction and guidance for the university’s leapfrog development. President Ma emphasized that we were now at the historical node of marching towards the second centenary goal and the critical stage of embarking on a new journey of building a socialist modern country in an all-round way. He pledged that CUPL would continue to follow the important instructions of President Xi’s speech and implement the fundamental task of all-round education. At this time next year, on the event of the 5th anniversary of General Secretary Xi’s visit to CUPL, the university would embark on a critical journey to accelerate its “double first-class university” initiative. He announced and invited all to attend multiple themed activities during the grand 70th anniversary celebration, such as academic, cultural and alumni events.
Vice President Li Xiuyun introduced that the theme of the 70th anniversary celebration, “Building on the Foundation in the Glorious Past Seventy Years, and Creating the Future Featuring Virtue and Law”, and displayed the logo for the celebration of the 70th founding anniversary. In the logo, the number “7” evolved from two petals of magnolia flower and the university emblem is embedded in the number “0”, indicating that the 70th Anniversary of CUPL is a new starting point and CUPL will carry forward its original aspiration and true mission. Vice President Li also launched the official website for the 70th anniversary celebration.
Prof. Jiao Hongchang, Dean of the Law School, spoke as faculty representative. He said that the CUPL had trained many outstanding legal talents for the country and was praised as the benchmark for the five leading law universities and schools in China. The university motto served as beacon, guiding and illuminating CUPLers. He encouraged all CUPLers to work together and contribute to the small and beautiful campuses of CUPL. Student representative Xie Bingyu called on young students to carry forward CUPL aspiration and to fulfill their dreams through diligence and hard work. Tong Lihua, Director of the Beijing Zhicheng Law Firm and alumni representative, expressed his gratitude to CUPL on behalf of the alumni, and called on everyone to contribute to the development of the university and to further advancing the rule of law in China.
A number of council members and entrepreneurs, from Apis Technology Group Co., Ltd., Eastern Pioneer Driving School Co., Ltd., Zhucheng Yihe Axles Co., Ltd., Guangdong Fudi Automobile Co.,Ltd., China Jointide (Beijing) Law Firm, etc., generously donated money for CUPL. CUPL Council Chair Hu Ming presented donation certificates to the entrepreneurs and alumni. President Ma accepted the donations on behalf of the university. Since 2020, Yu Yunyi, Honorary Vice Chairman of the China Charity Federation and Chairman of Yongyi Foundation from Hong Kong, and other council members and entrepreneurs have made enthusiastic donations and important contributions to the development of CUPL.
Finally, university leaders and retired representatives, representatives of management, alumni representatives, and student representatives jointly launched the countdown to the 70th anniversary of the founding of the China University of Political Science and Law.
It is reported that after the launch ceremony of the countdown to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the school, the school will carry out a series of school celebration activities centering on the six aspects of “the History of the CUPL, Academy of the CUPL, Cultural of the CUPL, Spirit of the CUPL, Issues of the CUPL, and Public Welfare of the CUPL”, focusing on displaying the history of the school, summarizing the experience of running the school, carrying forward the fine traditions, demonstrating the spirit of the CUPL, and writing a new chapter in the future development of calligraphy through the 70th anniversary school celebration activities.
