CUPL Delegation Visits Partner Universities in Sweden, Austria and Croatia

Between September 20 and 29, 2017, CUPL delegation led by Prof. Yu Zhigang, Vice President of CUPL, was invited to visit Stockholm University, Uppsala University, University of Vienna, University of Graz and University of Zagreb, reaching several consensuses on expanding intercollegiate exchanges and cooperation with top universities in northern, central and eastern Europe. The delegation also visited the Embassy of P. R. C. in the Kingdom of Sweden for China-Sweden university cooperation of various forms.

During the visit to Sweden, CUPL delegation visited Stockholm University and Uppsala University. The delegation met with representatives of the Faculty of Law, humanities and social sciences of each university and exchanged views on furthering bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the field of humanities and social sciences, such as law, history, philosophy and sociology. CUPL signed the Joint Master’s Degree Program with the Faculty of Law and the faculty of humanities and social sciences of Uppsala University.

The delegation also paid a visit to the Embassy of P. R. C. in the Kingdom of Sweden, and had an in-depth discussion on China-Sweden relations, people-to-people and cultural exchanges with Ambassador Gui Congyou and Dou Chunxiang, Counselor of Education. Ambassador Gui recognized the achievements of the bilateral cooperation between CUPL and universities in Sweden and said that the Embassy and CUPL should work together to actively explore new contents and approaches of cooperation between CUPL and universities in Sweden.

During the visit to Austria, the delegation met with Prof. Christa Neuper, President of University of Graz, Prof. Heinz Fassmann, Vice President of University of Vienna, Deans of the Faculties of Law of the two universities, Chinese and the Austrian Directors of the Confucius Institutes (CIs), and other representatives. The delegation signed the Student Exchange Agreement with University of Graz.

In Croatia, the delegation met with Prof. Damir Boras, President of University of Zagreb, Miloš Judaš, Vice President of University of Zagreb, Dubravka Hrabar, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Davor Derenčinović, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law. Prof. Yu said, the two universities had already been involved in pragmatic cooperation, yet it was the first time leaders of the two universities met with each other. Since the signing of the Cooperation Agreement in 2016, 12 teachers have engaged in short-term exchange programs. In September, four students from CUPL will be sent for the first time to study in the University of Zagreb. Prof. Yu hoped that the scope of exchanges and cooperation will be further expanded and the channels will be more flexible. Prof. Damir Boras welcomed the CUPL delegation, and agreed with Prof. Yu on his suggestions to strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two universities. Prof. Damir Boras said that both sides should maintain close contact and negotiate further on the number and channels of students and staff exchange programs.

The aim of this visit was to actively and effectively expand the scope and depth of cooperation among CUPL and the five universities, in particular, creating more opportunities and channels of exchanges for students in the five universities and CUPL, inviting more professors of the 5 universities to teach at CUPL during summer terms and other short-term programs of CUPL in spring and autumn terms, and promoting bilateral academic cooperation and communications.
