On November 11 (local time), the Confucius Institute (CI) at Barbados successfully held the commencement ceremony for the autumn Chinese class at UWI Cave Hill. Over 200 people attended the ceremony, including Prof. Eudine Barriteau, President of UWI Cave Hill, Wang Ke, Chinese Ambassador to Barbados, Zhang Xiu, Chinese Councilor, as well as students of the Chinese class and the local Chinese residents.
The ceremony began with Tang Shi Lian Chang (Song of Tang Poems), performed by local Chinese children. Prof. Eudine Barriteau praised the CI for playing a significant role in Chinese teaching and the spreading of Chinese culture. She also congratulated the CI for its consistent progress and development. Ambassador Wang Ke said that the CI at Barbados had long been committed to spreading Chinese culture and facilitating the cultural exchanges between China and Barbados. Later, the documentary film named “The First Summer Camp: Travel to China” featuring the CI at Barbados was played, presenting the fruitful achievements of the summer camp. The documentary was warmly received by the audience with applause.
Some 70 students of the Chinese class at the CI gave wonderful performances, including Chinese songs, Chinese classic dance, folk dance, recitation of Chinese poetry and the performance of Hulusi (a traditional Chinese musical instrument). Through their acclaimed performances, students demonstrated their study results of Chinese language and culture. In addition, the lucky draw session pushed the atmosphere to an exciting climax.
After the performance, Prof. Eudine Barriteau, Ambassador Wang Ke and other guests granted certificates for outstanding students and encouraged them to continue their Chinese study in the future.
