On June 24, 2016 Romanian time, Bucharest, the capital of Romania, held the inauguration of the first Confucius Classroom at Kosenopol Economic High School. H.E. Xu Feihong, Chinese Ambassador to Romania, and Tho Adel, the newly-appointed District Chief of the 2nd District of Bucharest together with some 200 people attended the inauguration.

The inauguration ceremony started with the national anthem of China sang by the staff and students of the Kosenopol Economic High School and the Chinese guests. In the inauguration, Xu said that he was excited to hear the Chinese national anthem sung by students from the High School. He congratulated the excellent achievements made by the Kosenopol Economic High School in recent years. Xu also encouraged the Romanian students to have a good command of the Chinese language so as to be friendly messengers between Romania and China.

Tho Adel said that it was of great significance to attend the ceremony on the first day in office. He hoped Chinese teaching could be more successful and make more contributions to the friendships between the two countries.

As one of the Chinese-teaching sites of CI at UB, Kosenopol Economic High School started its Chinese class in 2013. At present, nearly 70 students are enrolled in compulsory Chinese courses and 30 students in optional Chinese courses.

According to Dong Jingbo, Chinese President of CI at UB, through concerted efforts the Ministry of Education of Romania has listed Chinese classes on the list of compulsory courses in secondary and primary schools across the country in recent days. These efforts indicate the new phase for Chinese teaching in secondary and primary schools of Romania.

So far, there are 4 Confucius Institutes, 6 Confucius classrooms and many Chinese-teaching sites in Romania.
