On the morning of May 11, 2014, the Romanian Qualification Trials for the 13th Chinese Bridge—Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students successfully kicked off at Bucharest. It was hosted by the Education Section of Chinese Embassy in Romania, and co-sponsored by the Confucius Institute at University of Bucharest (CI at UB). This was the first time the Institute has acted as the assistant organizer of the Chinese Bridge since its establishment in 2013. Ms. Huo Yuzhen, China’s Ambassador to Romania, and Mr. Bian Zhengdong, Head of the Education Section of Chinese Embassy in Romania attended that event and delivered speeches respectively.
17 contestants turned up in the contest. They were the representatives from the Confucius Institutes or colleges and universities located in Bucharest, Sibiu, Cluj, Iasi and over 150 audience members were turned up on the day to watch the event.
Ms. Bao Shengjie from the Confucius Institute at UB, and Mr. Mu Gulie from the Department of Chinese language and literature of UB, presided over the competition. The whole contest was divided into three parts: keynote speech, questions and answers, and the talent show concerning Chinese culture. After fierce competition in the morning, Monica Verbint, a student of the University of Bucharest grabbed the first prize in the Romanian Qualification Trials of the 13th Chinese Bridge.
