In commemoration of the 12th National Legal Awareness Day on December 3 and 4, the CUPL Postgraduate Legal Aid Center joined hands with Haidian District Bureau of Justice and other administrational branches to launch a series of even in Beijing area promoting the rule of law. The effort is meant to enhance citizens' legal awareness, and to promote the development of the rule of law in China.
The primary subject of the events was peasant workers and other groups who typically lack legal awareness. Over 100 volunteers participated in the event. The volunteers publicized China's position towards the rule of law and basic legal knowledge to workers and senior citizens by setting up exhibitions and display panels, putting up posters and conducting radio broadcasts. Free legal advice and pamphlets were distributed to the audience. After listening to the event, many citizens came up to the volunteers to ask them for information regarding everyday legal matters. There was an excitement in the air as the volunteers replied with detailed answers. The volunteers' patience, attentive and earnest attitude, and the thoughtful service with which they resolved the citizens’ questions left a deep impression on the audience. They were widely praised by the attending citizens.
