To promote CUPL’s international reach and to expand cooperative relationships with the university’s northern European partners, from June 10 to 21, 2012, CUPL Council Chairperson Shi Yajun led a delegation to internationally renowned institutions of higher learning, including: Helsinki University, Turku University, Reykjavik University of Iceland, and Dublin University of the Republic of Ireland. The delegation also visited the Chinese embassies in Finland and Ireland; the Parliament of Ireland; Irish think-tank Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI); and, various governmental bodies and research institutions in each of the northern European countries.

Signing a cooperative agreement with President of Helsinki University
On the afternoon of June 11, 2012, the delegation visited Helsinki University, one of CUPL’s key partners in Northern Europe. CUPL Chairperson Shi Yajun and Helsinki University President Thomas Wilhelmsson signed the exchange agreement for doctoral degree candidates and scholars.

On the morning of June 13, 2012, the delegation visited Turku University. CUPL Chairperson Shi Yanjun and Tapio Reponen Turku University Vice-president Tapio Reponen signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation, and an academic cooperative agreement relating to faculty and student exchanges.

On the morning of June 15, 2012 the delegation visited Reykjavik University. The two universities emphasized the following: further promoting programs concerning State-Sponsored Postgraduate Study Abroad under National Key Development; promoting programs relating to faculty and student exchanges; the joint development of Sino-Europe exchanges mechanism and the exchange platform of legal education; and, organizing a Reykjavik University Day at CUPL.

On the evening of June 18, 2012, Dublin University President Hugh Brady gave a warm reception to the delegation in the presidential mansion. During the meeting, CUPL Chairperson Shi Yajun and Dublin University President Hugh Brady signed an Intercollegiate Academic Cooperation Agreement.

On the morning of June 19, 2012, the delegation visited Irish think-tank Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), holding talks with Director Dermot McCarthy (former Chief Whip of the Office Irish Prime Minister) and founder Brendan Halligan (a former MEP and former representative of Dail Eireann). The delegation also met with the minister for education and skills Ruairi Quinn and the interior minister. The delegation also held discussions with former Dail Eireann Representative Eric Byrne.

On the evening of June 20, 2012, Chinese Ambassador to Ireland Luo Linquan and his wife Qiao Li gave a warm reception to the delegation. On the morning of June 21, 2012, Ambassador Luo Linquan, Counselor Wu Lijun, and staff went to the airport to send-off the delegation.
