On the evening of October 31, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) hosted the award ceremony for the 23rd “Top 10 Academic Stars” and the 22nd “Academic Newcomer” thesis competition, together with the “What Makes a Scholar” academic salon at the Liu Huangfa Lecture Hall on the CUPL Changping Campus.
The event was attended by Jiang Zeting, Coucil Chair of CUPL, representatives from the Beijing Arbitration Commission and Zhong Lun Law Firm, heads of relevant university departments, as well as over 440 faculty and students.

“What Makes a Scholar” Academic Salon
Following the award ceremony, the “What Makes a Scholar” academic salon commenced under the chairmanship of Xie Libin, Associate Dean of the College of Comparative Law. Four scholars—Lei Lei, Wang Zhiyuan, Zhang Linghan, and Wang Zheng— then engaged in an in-depth discussion on the theme of “The Pros and Cons of Artificial Intelligence Technology in the Field of Academic Research”.
The “Top 10 Academic Stars” and “Academic Newcomer” thesis competitions represent CUPL’s most time-honored, systematic, and influential academic initiatives. Over its 23 editions, the “Top 10 Academic Stars” competition has garnered nearly 3,000 undergraduate paper submissions, with 243 awardees. Spanning its 22 editions, the “Academic Newcomer” competition has accumulated over 5,300 submissions from master’s and doctoral students. This year’s edition alone attracted 282 submissions, reaching a record high.
