On the afternoon of October 18, Lu Chunlong, Vice President of China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), warmly welcomed Gerard Johannes Sanders, Senior Counsel and Honorary General Legal Counsel of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) at CUPL’s Haidian campus.
Vice President Lu extended a heartfelt welcome to Mr. Sanders and expressed his deep gratitude for Sanders' long-term support in cultivating talent in international law at CUPL. He particularly acknowledged Mr. Sanders' keynote speech at CUPL’s inaugural World Jurists Forum. Lu highlighted the valuable contributions Mr. Sanders has made over the years by delivering lectures for CUPL’s International Organization Youth Talent Training Program and maintaining close collaboration with the university's research team. He expressed hope for further deepening cooperation between CUPL and AIIB, particularly in personnel and academic research, with the goal of expanding the scope of subjects and exploring new modes of cooperation. He also extended an invitation for Mr. Sanders to become an adjunct professor at CUPL to work together to further contribute to talent development, academic growth, and international collaboration at the university.
Mr. Sanders thanked CUPL for its warm reception and commended the university for its forward-looking approach to talent cultivation. He praised CUPL’s faculty and students for their outstanding contributions in international organizations. Drawing on his extensive experience at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the AIIB, Mr. Sanders reaffirmed his commitment to supporting outstanding Chinese youth in assuming greater roles on the global stage. He emphasized that only through the combined efforts of people from all walks of life can we achieve the shared vision of creating a fairer and better world through the rule of law.

Following the meeting, CUPL held the opening ceremony for the second session of graduate course Global Competence Development.
Mr. Sanders, as the keynote speaker for the first lecture, delivered an insightful talk titled "The Historical Roots of International Financial Institutions and Their Impact on Organizational Purpose and Institutional Governance," marking the successful launch of the course.
