On December 10, 2023, the 20th edition of the CASC Cup Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, organized by the China Institute of Space Law, came to a successful conclusion. This year’s competition witnessed a record-breaking participation, with 32 prestigious universities, including Peking University, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Beihang University, Wuhan University, and Beijing Institute of Technology. After intense rounds of preliminary and final matches, CUPL emerged victorious, clinching the national championship along with an impressive haul of seven awards.
The Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition (MLSLMCC), initiated by the International Institute of Space Law (IISL) in 1992, stands as a premier annual event in the realm of simulated courtroom contests. Renowned for its distinguished panel of sitting judges from the International Court of Justice presiding over the finals, MLSLMCC ranks among the top three moot court competitions globally. Since 2003, the China Institute of Space Law has been an integral part of the MLSLMCC, organizing its national rounds in China as part of the global MLSLMCC system. This year marks the 20th successful edition of the competition.
CUPL has established itself as a formidable force in the realm of international space law moot court competitions, boasting a stellar track record of championship titles and runner-up accolades in previous editions. The team has notably secured the national championship for nine consecutive years, reaffirming its dominance in the field. This year's victory marks a triumphant return for CUPL, reclaiming the top honor after a brief hiatus.
