CUPL Holds 2021-2022 “CUPL Role Models” Award Ceremony

On April 4, 2023, the 2021-2022 “CUPL Role Models” Award Ceremony was held in the auditorium at the Changping Campus of China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL). Prof. Ma Huaide, President of CUPL, Prof. Li Xiuyun, Vice President of CUPL, Jia Yipeng, Managing Partner of Hylands Law Firm, Li Li, Partner of Hylands Law Firm, Lv Chunjie, Partner of Hylands Law Firm Miyun Branch, Zhang Jian, Deputy General Manager of Beijing Fund Town Holding Co. Ltd., and Li Xin, Secretary General of Public Welfare Foundation of Beijing Fund Town attended the ceremony. Heads of relevant schools as well as representatives of faculty and more than a thousand students attended the event.

Prof. Ma Huaide stated in his speech that though the awarded models have different achievements, they share some commonalities. They all have a global vision and great aspirations, practice both morality and law, and take law as their virtue. They are resilient, tough, and pioneering. These excellent qualities have been carried forward by generations of CUPL students and faculty.

At the end of his speech, Prof. Ma Huaide encouraged students to draw strength from the models and strive for progress with a sense of honor, an enterprising spirit and long-term commitments. He also called on CUPL students to charter new achievements in the new era with vigor and vitality to Make China Strong.

Prof. Li Xiuyun read out the decision of CUPL on recognizing the scholarship winners, merit students, excellent student leaders, and advanced class collectives for the academic year of 2021-2022. Prof. Li called on students to learn from the models, strive for all-round progress, and continue to advance the university spirit and sound learning atmosphere.

Then, the presenters presented the awards to the winners.

During the award ceremony, three excellent students shared their stories with the audience. Through these stories, CUPL students got to know the hard work and dedication behind the exemplary achievements of the award winners. These stories may inspire the audience to be diligent learners and determined practitioners, and to understand the importance of self-discovery in making choices and perseverance in pursuing one’s goals. Xiong Qinhui, a 2019 undergraduate student from the School of Humanities, shared her volunteer experiences of supporting children as a companion, listener, and encourager. Ouyang Yuting, a 2019 undergraduate student from the School of Sociology, talked about her academic pursuits and goals, and how she persevered in following her passion. Chen Dongyang, a 2021 postgraduate student from the School of International Law, shared his story of continuously challenging himself and exploring his university life, inspiring his fellow students to step out of comfort zones and break the limits.

Finally, President Ma Huaide presented awards to the ten winners of the Presidential Scholarship and took a group photo with them.

Launched in 2005, the “CUPL Role Models” Award Ceremony is held annually. This year, the theme was “models driving us forward”. At the Ceremony, the award winners shared their stories with the audience. It is hoped that CUPL students follow their lead and strive to be hardworking and enterprising CUPLers.
