CUPL President Ma Huaide Attends the Debut of “Understanding China”

On December 1, “Understanding China” (Series II) was launched in Guangzhou. Lv Yansong, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Zheng Bijian, President of China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, and Du Zhanyuan, Director General of China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration attended the event and delivered speeches. Shaukat Aziz, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, as well as Ma Huaide, President of China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), delivered video speeches. Li Junru, Executive Vice President of the China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, presided over the event.

President Ma said in his speech that since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, we had been fully committed to promoting socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics, to pursuing coordinated progress in law-based governance, law-based exercise of state power and law-based government administration, and to promoting the integrated development of the rule of law for the country, the government and the society. These efforts had prompted historic achievements in building the system of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics. And the historic shifts marked that the system entered a new era. To understand China, we should first understand China's legal system and legal practices. That was why The System of Socialist Rule of Law with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era was compiled as part of the Understanding China Book Series. The book was to share China's experience and approaches, as well as its historic achievements in building the system so as to tell China's stories of the rule of law well and make China's voice heard.

Many writers of the book series delivered speeches on the spot or via video, including Qin Dahe, an academician and head of the Academic Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xu Weixin, Vice President of the China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy and former Vice President of Party School of the Central Committee of CPC, Chi Fulin, President of China (Hainan) Institute for Reform and Development, Zheng Yongnian, Founding Director of the Advanced Institute of Global and Contemporary China Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Yusuf Wanandi, Vice President of the Indonesian Center for Strategic and International Studies.
