To commemorate the 180th anniversary of the birth of Shen Jiaben, to dig deeper into his legal theories, to inherit the Chinese legal culture, and to carry forward the spirit of the rule of law, the second Seminar on Shen Jiaben and Chinese Legal Culture was held in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province on November 21 and 22. The seminar was jointly sponsored by CUPL, Huzhou Municipal Party Committee and Huzhou Municipal Government. Ma Huaide, President of CUPL, and Gao Huanyue, Deputy Council Chair of CUPL attended the seminar.
Shen Jiaben, a famous jurist, legal system reformer and legal thinker in modern China, was a master of ancient Chinese legal culture and founder of the modernization of Chinese law. He made positive contributions to China's legal modernization, the prosperity of jurisprudence, and the cultivation of legal talents. He was known as the pioneers of the rule of law in modern China and the initiator of the rule of law concept. During the seminar, Shen Houduo introduced in detail the historical background of Shen Jiaben's legal revision, as well as his ideal and belief of saving the country with law and his love for the nation. Experts and scholars from CUPL, Peking University, Institute of Law of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and other universities and academic research institutions gathered together and conducted in-depth discussions on topics, such as "Learning from Shen Jiaben's Academic Spirit, Prospering China's Legal Culture", "Cultivation of Judicial Reform Concept in the New Era and the Origin of Shen's Legal Propositions", etc.
