The 2019 Undergraduate Freshmen Opening Ceremony Held in CUPL

On September 6, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) held the opening ceremony for the undergraduate freshmen at the auditorium of Changping Campus. Prof. Hu Ming,CUPL Council Chair,Prof. Ma Huaide, President of CUPL, Prof. Feng Shiyong, Vice-President of CUPL, Prof. Gao Huanyue, CUPL Council Vice-Chair, Prof. Shi Jianzhong, Vice President, Prof. Chang Baoguo, CUPL Council Vice-Chair & Vice-President, and Prof. Li Xiuyun, Vice President of CUPL attended the ceremony. Heads of schools and administrative departments, as well as teachers’ representatives and all freshmen of grade 2019 attended the opening ceremony. The parallel sessions was set up at the Liu Huangfa Academic Lecture Hall and the Lecture Hall of the Student Center. The opening ceremony was presided over by Vice President Li Xiuyun.

At 8:30 in the morning, the undergraduate freshmen from all corners of the country gathered in CUPL, for the beginning of a new page in life. The screen slowly lit up for a video, and everyone reviewed the enrollment of Grade 2019:students who came for enrollment registration on the Constitution Avenue were either busy signing up for payment or taking photos in front of the welcome backboard. Those youthful and hopeful faces make the campus more vibrant than usual. Then the flash video of “My Motherland and Me” filmed by CUPL appeared on the screen. The background music moved every teacher and student on the scene, igniting the patriotic enthusiasm of the audience. “The waves are the sea’s feet, and the sea is the support of the waves." In 2019, CUPL students not only expressed their love to the motherland with their songs, but also send good wishes to the motherland, and they will set off a new journey together with the beautiful singing!

At 9:00 in the morning, the opening ceremony kicked off with the solemn national anthem. Prof. Yu Fei from Civil, Commercial and Economic Law School, delivered a speech on behalf of the faculty. He first congratulated and welcomed the students to CUPL. Then, he took “Nezha”, a popular movie, as an example to encourage the students to become “the Masters of Their Own Destinies”. Prof. Yu urged students to let go of all kinds of shackles, to have the courage to break all boundaries, to re-examine themselves and to reshape themselves during undergraduate study. Zhou Minghui, a student from the School of International Law, spoke as a representative of the students.

At the ceremony, President Ma Huaide delivered a speech themed “Stand on the Top of the Mountain, Go Deep into the Sea”. On behalf of CUPL, he expressed his heartfelt congratulations and warm welcome to the 2,170 new undergraduates.

President Ma reviewed the 67-year history of CUPL. He pointed out that CUPL has always resonated with the development of the country, especially the advancement of the rule of law in the country. The university has participated in almost all legislative activities of China, and has trained more than 200,000 outstanding talents in the field of humanities and social sciences. It has been hailed as “the Best Institution of China’sLegal Education” and “the Academic Center of China’sHumanities and Social Sciences”. On May 3, 2017, President Xi Jinping inspected CUPL and delivered an important speech, in which he highly affirmed the achievements of CUPL. The visit demonstrated the great importance attached by the Party and the state to governing the country according to law and the cordial concern for our university.

President Ma hoped that the students would stand on the top of the mountain and go deep into the sea, cherish the opportunities of our time, dare to surpass themselves, and forge themselves into the best CUPL people. He also hoped that the students would carry on the past glory and live up to the calls of the time.

At the end of the opening ceremony, all the students and faculty sang “Ode to the Motherland”. The passionate song conveyed the enthusiasm of CUPLers to make constant progresses, faith of serving the motherland, and promise to care for the world.
