From Feb. 24 to 26, 2018, the 16th China Division Competition of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was held at Renmin University of China.
After a rounds of competition, the CUPL team stood out from the participating teams with well-respected legal literacy, excellent courtroom level, complementary team spirit and imperturbable psychology and won the following awards: the First Prize, Best Memorial of the Plaintiff Party, Best Memorial of the Defendant Party and two Best Oralists. The CUPL team has successfully won all the awards of the competition and obtained the qualification to go to Washington, D.C. to participate in the World Finals.

Since the first China Division Competition for the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition back in 2003, the scale and influence of the event have been continuously expanding in China. This year’s competition attracted more than 300 excellent students from 49 well-known colleges and universities in China, and nearly 100 well-known judges, arbitrators, professors and lawyers from around the world had been invited to serve as judges.
The CUPL team consists of undergraduate students Li Lingyun, Zhang Tingting, He Yemei, Dai Linxi and Xu Zihe, from the School of International Law, the Criminal Justice College and the Law School of CUPL respectively. Lan Hua, Associate Professor of the School of International Law serves as their adviser, and Wang Yan, Zhao Yiming, and Zhang Yuanyuan provided relevant information assistance. From the autumn semester of the academic year 2017 - 2018 to the whole winter holiday, under the guidance of Professor Lan Hua, the team members had conducted highly-intensive training on legal issues, legal document writing, oral expression, etc. Hard work pays off and they finally won so many awards.
The team will travel to Washington, D. C., in April 2018 to participate in the World Finals of the 59th Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. Up to now, our school has won this Competition for three consecutive years and competed with many international top universities in the world finals. The outstanding results reflect the excellent professional qualities of students in CUPL, and also demonstrate the level of legal practice teaching and the quality of education of CUPL.
