On September 29, 2017 (local time), the Confucius Institute at the University of the West Indies, Barbados (CI at Barbados), held an Open House Event to celebrate the “Confucius Institute Day”. There were many activities with Chinese characteristics, such as Ping-Pong (table tennis), display of traditional Chinese costumes, Chinese calligraphy, tea art, learning Chinese chess, playing mahjong, learning the Chinese language, paper cutting, Chinese folk music and dancing, and Chinese movies. More than 100 students and staff from the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies as well as students from the CI at Barbados attended the event.

The most attractive part in the “Confucius Institute Day” was the movie show. The vivid dialogues and interesting scenes from the action movie “Chinese Zodiac” starred by Jackie Chan made the audience burst into laughter. In addition, the display of Chinese costumes let local students see the traditional costumes of some ethnic minorities, such as those of the Tibetan and the Uygur, as well as the ceremonial dresses and cheongsam wore in traditional Chinese wedding ceremonies. Students were very interested in trying them on and taking pictures.
