On the afternoon of November 2, 2016, President Prof. Huang Jin met with Francesco Ubertini, President of the Universityof Bologna (UB) at the Haidian Campus. Roberto Grandi, Chairman of China Federation of UB, Rafael Lozano Miralle, President of School of Translation, and Marina Timoteo, Foreign Co-Director of the Confucius Institute also participated in the meeting.
President Huang first extended a sincere welcome to President Ubertini and his delegation and spoke highly of UB, which was praised as the “mother of modern universities”. He said that UB was the oldest university in the world. It began with legal education and the establishment of a law school. CUPL is also prominent in legal education. In spite of its short history, CUPL has achieved tremendous development over the past 64 years and is praised as the “top university in legal education within China”. At present, CUPL is gradually becoming a multi-disciplinary university. CUPL is honored to be the first Chinese university to establish partnerships with UB. President Huang recalled that he felt honored during his visit to UB in 2009 to be the first president of a foreign university to have been received by Ivano Dionigi, former President of UB, shortly after Ivano Dionigi became president of UB. It is a coincidence because it’s also the first visit of President Ubertini to China since he took office in 2015. President Huang hoped to take this opportunity to further promote bilateral exchanges so as to enhance our cooperation. President Huang also introduced our talents training programs, the participation of CUPL in the building of a law-based state, and the international development strategy in detail.
Ubertini said that it was his first visit to China as President of UB and was indeed an important visit. The soundc ooperation between UB and CUPL has lasted for over 10 years, and it has been vigorous and promising both in scope and form. He mentioned that as he entered the campus, he met many students jointly trained by the two universities and saw many UB professors giving lectures as adjunct professors as well as many UB alumni working at CUPL. They were the fruits of the bilateral cooperation. At the endof his commentary, he invited President Huang to visit UB again.
