On the afternoon of August 15, 2016, CUPL President Prof. Huang Jin met with Robert Zimmer, President of the University of Chicago (UC) and his party. The two parties exchanged views on future cooperation between the two universities.
President Huang mainly introduced the two leading disciplines of CUPL, namely law and political science, and highlighted the impressive development of two other disciplines, finance and the economics of law. President Huang said that CUPL had grown from a single-discipline institute of law into a multidisciplinary university with a competitive advantage in law; from a teaching-oriented university into an innovative university which cultivated innovative talents and promoted academic innovation; and from an ordinary university into a top-tier university with profound influence across the globe. CUPL has kept the crown as “top university for law in China.” CUPL also established two important scientific research institutions in economics and management science respectively, namely the Capital Finance Institute (CFI) and the School of Law and Economics (SLE).
CFI was founded under the sponsorship of the Wanda Group, among other enterprises. As a new scientific research institution, CFI has had profound influence on the capital markets and academic circles of China. SLE plays a leading role in the economics of law and hopes to conduct exchange and cooperation with UC in this regard.
President Robert Zimmer introduced the development of UC and the strategy of cooperation with China. He believed there were different possibilities for the exchange programs of teachers and students between the two universities. UC welcomes CUPL teachers and students and would also recommend UC professors to conduct academic exchanges with CUPL.
