President Huang Jin Attends the Independence Day Reception of Barbados

On the evening of November 29, 2014, CUPL President Prof. Huang Jin attended the reception marking the Independence Day of Barbados, by accepting the invitation of Mr. Chelston W.D. Brathwaite, Barbadian Ambassador to China. Director-General of Treaty & Law Department under China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Xu Hong, Chinese Ambassador to Barbados, Ms. Wang Ke, members of the local Diplomatic Corps,Chinese government officials and business representatives were also among the guests at the meeting.

Mr. Brathwaite extended a warm welcome to the gathered guests and delivered a speech. He remarked that the reception, which marked both the 48th Independence Day of Barbados and the 37th anniversaryof the establishment of Sino-Barbadian diplomatic relations, celebrated the achievements his homeland has scored in various areas such as culture,education, sports, health care, trade, etc. Mr. Brathwaite expressed his willingness to maintain healthy bilateral relations between Barbados and China on the basis of mutual respect and cooperation. He especially mentioned the measures adopted by Barbados this year to further strengthen and deepen bilateral relations with China. One of them was that, under the witness of Hon. Mr. Ronald D. Jones, M.P., Barbadian Minister of Education, Science, Technology & Innovation, during his visit to China this October, an implementation agreement was concluded between CUPL and the University of West Indies at Cave Hill to establish a Confucius Institute in Barbados. The new institute can offer more opportunities to the locals to fully appreciate Chinese language and culture,thereby reinforcing the collaboration and understanding between the two countries and their people.

Soon afterwards, President HuangJin exchanged views with Mr. Brathwaite, Ms. Wang Ke and other notable guests on the future development of that planned Confucius Institute at Barbados, as well as other related matters.
