A Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Construction of CI Building was Held at the Cave Hill Campus

A ground breaking ceremony for the Confucius Institute(CI) Building, co-established by CUPL and the University of West Indies (UWI, Cave Hill, at Barbados) was held on July 11, 2014. H.E. Ms. Wang Ke, Chinese Ambassador to Barbados, Hon.Ronald Jones, Barbadian Minister of Education, Science, Technology & Innovation (METI), Hon. Maxine Macklin, Barbadian Minster of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade, and Sir Hillary Becker, UWI (Cave Hill Campus) Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal, attended this ceremony. CUPL President Huang Jin sent a congratulatory letter expressing his gratitude for the significant importance UWI had attached and the strong support it had given to the Confucius Institute, sincerely wishing that the building would be smoothly completed on schedule and the CI plaque would be unveiled soon.

CI at the Cave Hill Campus of UWI, following CI at Bangor University in the Great Britain and CI at University of Bucharest in Romania, was the third one jointly created by CUPL and its highly respected foreign counterparts. In line with the signed agreement, the Barbadian side was responsible for the financing, design and construction of the CI building, which is expected to be completed by November this year.
