On the afternoon of April 21, 2014, John Naisbitt, a world renowned futurologist and the author of Megatrends and China’s Megatrends, accompanied by his wife Mrs. Doris Naisbitt, visited our Xueyuan Lu Campus. Vice President Zhu Yong, on behalf of CUPL, held cordial talks with the guests.
During the meeting, Zhu Yong made two proposals. First, the Naisbitts could set up a base of operations in CUPL, and the two sides, based on that establishment, could jointly carry out such work as developing talented individuals, revising of writings, etc. Second, by collaborating with the School of Journalism & Communication at CUPL, the Naisbitt couple could set up a research institute in CUPL and launch collaborative research with our faculty members. Therefore, Zhu Yong specially invited Lu Xiaohua, Dean of that aforesaid School, to brief the Naisbitts on the School. Zhu Yong and Su Guangming, Director of China International Talent Exchange Foundation (CITEF), vowed to give full support for that expected cooperation.
The Naisbitt couple thanked Zhu Yong for his friendly proposals, and briefed the hosts with information concerning their research team, their base of operation in Tianjin, and their current studies in focus (including the upcoming release of a new book titled The Great Opening Up) and so on. Naisbitt reviewed the tremendous changes that have taken place in China and around the globe since our country adopted the policy of reform and opening-up, especially the rapid transformations that have taken place within China since the publication of his China’s Megatrends in 2009. For that reason, the couple would start to revise China’s Megatrends accordingly. Naisbitt couple hoped they could make contributions for the better mutual understanding and awareness between China and the West.
