On April 10, 2013, at Deiniol, Bangor's most prosperous business center, an open day activity was held by Confucius Institute of Bangor University and SOVA, an organization which places great stress on multicultural exchange.
Mr. Madge, who will assume the office of the Mayor of Bangor on May 13, 2013, attended the open day activities and watched Chinese tea art performance with great interest. He also tasted the Chinese oolong tea. Mr. Madge has paid close attention to the development of the Confucius Institutes at Bangor University. He and Professor Zhang Liying, the co-director of the Confucius Institute, had an especially enlightening conversation on China's economic development, Chinese legal system, cultural exchange between China and Wales, etc.
The special occasion also included a trial run of other various interesting activities including Chinese dancing and calligraphy.
