CUPL 2013 Foreign Affairs Banquet Held in Beijing

On the evening of January 11, 2013, CUPL held the yearly Foreign Affairs Banquet. This was the fifth time the banquet was held since it began in 2008. The event has multiple objectives: to further improve exchange platforms between CUPL and overseas colleges and universities; to further perfect the exchange forum operating between CUPL and foreign scientific research institutions; to extend our gratitude for the long-term support and help of various embassies in Beijing and related Chinese authorities.

The invited guests were: the Romanian ambassador to China, Mr. Doru Romulus Costea; Peruvian ambassador to China, Mr. Gonzalo Gutierrez; Deputy Director of the Canadian Embassy to China, Ms. Tang Lan (Sarah Taylor); the Deputy Chief of Mission at Austrian Embassy Beijing with the rank of Minister, Mr. Christian Steiner; the Deputy Chief of Mission at Slovenian Embassy Beijing with the rank of Minister, Ms. Natalija Raisp; Minister Counselor of the EU Delegation to China, Mr. Johan Cauwenbergh; and delegates from other 23 embassies including Germany, France, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Hungary, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Cuba, and Australia. In addition, representatives from the ASEAN-China Center, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and overseas CUPL partners, such as University of Exeter (UK), University of Glasgow (UK), the University of Auckland (New Zealand), University of Canterbury (New Zealand), also attended the banquet.

Officials from the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange under the Ministry of Education, China Scholarship Council (CSC), the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Chinese Service Centre for Scholarly Exchanges (CSCSE), China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), the Ministry of Commerce, Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, Taiwan Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality and other relevant authorities also attended the ceremony. In all, over 90 distinguished guests participated in the event.

The banquet was hosted by Xu Lan, Director of the CUPL Office of International Cooperation and Exchange. CUPL President Huang Jin addressed the banquet. Vice President Zhu Yong thanked German Academic Exchange Service for its continual and energetic support of our university.

During the banquet, guests spoke highly of international exchange and cooperation. They set a high value on CUPL’s internationalization strategy, as well as its achievements in developing CUPL into an open, international, multi-disciplinary, innovative world-renowned law-oriented university. Both Chinese and foreign guests expressed their willingness to strengthen cooperation with our university. The guests also exchanged views on how to deepen bilateral exchanges with their counterparts at CUPL.
