On May 28 and 29, 2012, an International Academic Conference under the theme of “Fundamental Rights in Europe and China: Identity and Universalism” was held at the University of Bologna, Italy. Professor Carla Salvaterra, Vice President of University of Bologna, and Professor Ivano Dionigi, Dean of Law School, University of Bologna, delivered welcoming remarks to the invited guests. CUPL Professor Yang Yuguan, Professor Li Li, and Associate Professor Sun Pinghua gave keynote speeches. Professor Yang Yuguan’s speech was titled “The Individual’s Rights in Criminal Justice in China.” Professor Li Li’s topic was “Language Right of the Defendant in the Courtroom in China.” Associate Professor Sun Pinghua’ speech was titled “Fundamental Principles to Achieve International Human Rights Standards in China.”
