CUPL Hosts a Lecture Regarding U.S Legal Education and Profession

On March 14, 2012, the Institute of Comparative Law hosted its inaugural lecture commemorating CUPL’s 60th Anniversary. U.S. Court of Appeals Second Circuit Judge Denny Chin delivered a lecture titled “Legal Education and Legal Profession in the United States.” CUPL Institute of Comparative Law Professor Zhu Weiyi presided.

Judge Denny Chin provided attendees an introduction to the U.S. judicial system, including the composition and division of the court system and the roles of judges and lawyers. Judge Chin presented an overview of American constitutional rights and civil rights, the protection of rights for the accused in criminal proceedings, and the protection of intellectual property rights—based on the actual cases he had heard as an appellate judge. In addition, Judge Chin shared with the audience his personal and professional experiences during his distinguished judiciary career. During the Q & A segment, Judge Chin fielded questions regarding such subjects as how to pass the Bar Exam, the relationship between judge and jury, and capital punishment.
