In the morning of October 11, 2018, Prof. Hu Ming, Council Chair of CUPL, met with the Romanian Education Delegation at theXueyuanlu Campus. Prof. Dong Jingbo, Chinese Co-Director of the CI at UB, Prof. Xu Lan, Director of the Office of International Communication and Exchange, Ms. Li Dandan, Director of the CI Office, Ms. Qu Xin,Deputy Director of the CI Office, and Ms. Liu Yuyuan, Program Officer of the CI Office, also attended the meeting.
CUPL Council Chair Hu Ming Receives the Romanian Education Delegation
During the meeting, Prof. Hu firstextended a warm welcome to all delegates on behalf of CUPL. He thenbriefed the delegates on CUPL, including its history,strengths, and programs as well asinternational cooperation and exchanges.Prof. Hu said thatCUPL had always attached great importance to the implementation of the international strategy, and Confucius Institutes are a significant component of this strategy. The CI at UB has made many achievements within a rather short history since its establishment, which proves not just the concerted efforts of both Chinese andRomanian staff, but also the support and assistance theRomanian delegates have provided. Prof. Huhoped that both sideswould stay committed to actively advancing the development of the CI, and tostrengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation.
Prof. Gina Fintineru, Vice Rector of University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest, appreciated CUPL staff for making the visit possible with limited time for preparation and for their warm reception. Prof. Gina then introduced theRomanian delegation, which constituted teachers and educatorsatmultiple levels. Prof. Gina said that it was a precious opportunity for the delegates to visit Chinese schools atmultiple levels and expressed her expectations for further cooperation with the CI and CUPL in education, which wouldhelp Romanian students broaden their horizons. Prof. Cristina-Anca Colibaba, Executive President of the EuroEdFoundationandChair of the Languages Department, Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy, said thatmore and more Romanian peoplehad developed interests in learning the Chinese language and culture. This demonstrates the successful work of the CI at UB and provides a good basis for future cooperation among CUPL, the CI at UB and EuroEd Foundation, to forge cross-cultural, multilingual and international programsin the future. Besides, Prof.Colibabamentioned that, Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy and EuroEdFoundationhadthe intention to co-establish a CI and a Confucius Classroom, so they hoped to learn more experience from CUPL.

Later, the two sides heldan in-depth discussion about the exchange of visits and cooperation in the future, which was followed by an exchange ofgifts and a group photo.
The Romanian Education Delegationis the third CI education delegation CUPL has received over the past 4 years, under the sponsorship of Hanban (CI headquarters). The delegation will alsovisitHanban (CI headquarters), the Affiliated School of CUPL (Changping District), Beijing Royal School, Xi’an Jiaotong University and Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine and other schools and universities. Through these visits, they will experience local customs and history of Beijing and Xi’an.
