At the celebration party, Council Chair Hu Ming and President Ma Huaide presented the volunteers with Beijing 2022 participation certificates, as well as customized commemorative badges and group photos. President Ma Huaide issued appointment letters to the members of the “Lighting Up Youth" Winter Olympics Volunteer Publicity Group.

On behalf of CUPL Council, Hu Ming expressed his heartfelt thanks and highest tribute to the volunteers of the 2022 Beijing Games for successfully completing their mission. He commended the volunteers for delivering excellent service despite unfavorable conditions, such as the COVID-19 epidemic and freezing temperature, which fully demonstrated the volunteers' spirit of “dedication, friendship, mutual assistance and progress” and the responsibility and patriotic philosophy of CUPLers. He hoped that the volunteers would continue to study the “ideological and political course” of Beijing 2022, seek spiritual nourishment, tell the story of the Winter Olympics well, and carry forward the Olympic spirit. He also encouraged them to adapt to campus life as soon as possible after returning to school, to be role models with talent and diligence for their peers, to fulfill the youthful commitment to the Party and the State in the new journey for the new era, and to strive to become the new generation who can take up the responsibility of national rejuvenation.

From January 15 to March 16, 2022, 190 volunteers from CUPL worked during the opening and closing ceremonies of Beijing 2022 at the National Stadium. Working on a total of 2,060 volunteer posts and for a total of 19,770 service hours, CUPL volunteers have successfully provided services in five functional areas, including ceremonies (CER), ticketing (TKT), transport (TRA), venue communications (VCC) and event services (EVS), fully demonstrating their youthful power as the “New Bird's Nest Generation”.

What our volunteers say:

Liu Zhihuan, an EVS volunteer for Beijing 2022

“Beijing 2022 means more than valuable experience and memory for me. It is a great honor, as a volunteer, to have witnessed the success of Beijing 2022. It brings warmth for the winter of 2022 and will always remind me of the responsibilities and missions as volunteers of CUPL to dedicate ourselves to this grand event and to every service work in the future .”

Hu Yiyun, a VOL volunteer for Beijing 2022

“What impressed me most was that on February 4, the day of the opening ceremony, the weather was very cold. In order to let the volunteers at various posts have a bowl of hot instant noodles, we carried kettles to send hot water back and forth between the volunteers' housing and the boiled water room, and walked more than 20,000 steps in a single day. I felt tired but very happy. The task may be trivial, but I felt very satisfied to contribute my bit in helping every volunteer take up their posts after filling up with energy and in serving all volunteers well.”

Liu Ying, a VCC volunteer for Beijing 2022

“I would like to thank all teachers and students providing general support and other services for their hard work. They gave us support so that we can go to work feeling supported and assured every day. At the same time, I would like to thank them for their assistance and tolerance. I learned a lot.”

Wei Liuting, a TRA volunteer for Beijing 2022

“I used to be slightly confused when faced with career choices. After this volunteering experience during Beijing 2022, I found that as long as I set my mind to it correctly, all possible options would ultimately lead to success. As long as we set out for a mission and develop a sense of social responsibility, we would embark on the correct way forward that is in line with the features of China and our times.”

Sun Weiyu, a TKT volunteer for Beijing 2022

“This is a centennial ceremony for us to respond to the call of the motherland. Our young CUPLers have successfully completed the mission during Beijing 2022. With the successful conclusion of the Games, we are looking forward to CUPL's 70th birthday. Young CUPLers will take up the torch of the Winter Olympics and dedicate our vitality and energy to the birthday of our alma mater!”

Wang Ye, a teacher from the labor union of the CUPL

“Beijing 2022 is an unforgettable journey. Appreciation to CUPL for providing a practical platform to serve and support the Winter Games, to the predecessors of the student affairs office for sharing their experience, and to all the volunteer students for their company. All of these have made my Winter Olympics memory memorable.”

Jiang Bosu, a teacher from the United Front Work Department

“I felt moved witnessing every contribution and gain of the volunteer teachers and students of CUPL. Thanks to CUPL for appointing me as a lead of volunteer students. Through this mission, I have improved my abilities and realized the significance and charm of learning from my own students. I have become a better version of myself.”

Zhang Yufei, a teacher from the School of Humanities

“During the two-month collective life, everyone really treated the volunteer house as our home and our team as a ‘Winter Olympics family’ that is closely linked together. All volunteers made concerted efforts to achieve ‘zero’ transmission of infectious diseases and lessen the risk to the health and safety of the all Game participants. Time will prove that this winter vacation will be an important milestone in our life, and a point that shines with the pure light like ice and snow. I hoped that the volunteers will continue to strive for more excellence and together for a shared future!”
