Deepening Academic Dialogue, Exploring New Collaborative Frontiers— Vice President Lu Chunlong Leads CUPL Delegation to UK for Series of Exchange Visits

In active response to China’s national strategy for educational opening-up and to deepen partnerships with leading UK universities, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) Vice President Lu Chunlong led a delegation to the United Kingdom from June 17 to 21. The visit aimed to enhance the university's global engagement, promote the development of foreign-related legal education, and conduct a series of high-level academic exchanges with world-renowned British universities.

On the first day of the visit, the delegation met with Zhou Wei, Minister-Counsellor for Education at the Chinese Embassy in the UK, to seek advice regarding the university's cooperation with British institutions. Zhou Wei spoke highly of the university’s achievements in international exchange and cooperation. From the perspective of China’s educational opening-up policy, Zhou Wei offered forward-looking guidance on partnership planning and optimization with UK counterparts, charting the course for future Sino-British collaboration. Liu Lengxin, First Secretary of the Embassy’s Education Office, also attended the meeting.

Visit to SOAS, University of London

At SOAS, University of London, the delegation held discussions with SOAS Director Professor Adam Habib, Chief of Staff and Director of Partnerships Ms. Kanina Foss, and key representatives from College of Development, Economics and Finance, School of Law, Gender and Media, School of Finance and Management, School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics, and the International Office. Building on global trends in higher education, both parties held substantive discussions focusing on collaborative development in key disciplines, particularly legal studies. The meetings yielded significant consensus on academic resource sharing and joint educational programs, establishing a robust framework for future cooperation.

Visit to the University of Glasgow

At the University of Glasgow, the two institutions held a signing ceremony for the LL.M. Scholarship Program Agreement. This institutionalized incentive mechanism will provide sustained momentum for deepening collaboration. The parties engaged in substantive discussions on key aspects of cooperative legal education, including curriculum design, faculty allocation, and quality assurance in talent development. These exchanges helped chart a long-term development path for the partnership and laid a solid foundation for expanded collaboration, advancing bilateral cooperation in legal education to new depths. Attendees included Professor Duncan Ross, Vice Dean of the School of Social & Political Sciences; Professor Claire McDiarmid, Head of the Law School; Dr. Zhu Mingzhe, Lecturer in Law; and Adam Reilly, Deputy Undergraduate Admissions Officer for the Law School.

Signing of the Letter of Intent on Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education

At Queen’s University Belfast, Vice President Lu Chunlong and Vice President Margaret Topping signed a Letter of Intent on Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education, ushering in a new chapter of institutional partnership. The delegation then held extensive discussions with leaders from the School of Law and the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics on joint programs in legal studies, political science, and economics. A dedicated seminar was also held on addressing global challenges in foreign-related legal education and exploring innovative Sino-British training models, with a focus on curriculum co-development, faculty exchanges, and mutual credit recognition.

At the University of Leeds, the delegation met with Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Hai-Sui Yu and leaders from the Faculty of Social Sciences and the School of Law to review the progress of existing dual-degree programs. The two sides also held an academic seminar on interdisciplinary approaches to cultivating foreign-related legal talent, exploring innovative training models that integrate legal studies with political science, economics, and linguistics. These discussions aimed to develop practical solutions for nurturing globally competent legal professionals with specialized expertise, international perspective, cross-cultural communication skills. This UK visit exemplifies CUPL’s commitment to educational openness and global engagement. The visit also strengthens strategic partnerships with premier UK institutions, and creates optimal conditions for deepened academic exchange and joint programs. Moving forward, the university will leverage this visit to further advance all-round cooperation with UK partners in teaching, research, academic exchanges, and talent development. Through introducing premium educational resources and enhancing our globalized educational standards, CUPL aims to develop more high-caliber professionals with international competitiveness, thereby contributing to national strategic priorities and international cooperation in education.
