On March 2, the Procedural Law Research Institute at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) hosted a press conference in Beijing to introduce the new books An Oral Autobiography of Prof. Chen Guangzhong and Biography of Chen Guangzhong. More than 50 expert representatives from various esteemed institutions, including the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, Ministry of Justice, China Society of Criminal Procedure Law, renowned universities, and the press and publishing industry attended the event.

Prof. Chen Guangzhong was born in Yongjia, Zhejiang Province in 1930. He is a Professor Emeritus and doctoral supervisor of CUPL, a widely recognized as a leading jurist, legal educator, and a pivotal figure in the development of criminal procedure law in the People’s Republic of China. With a career spanning over 70 years, Prof. Chen has made significant contributions to legal research, education, and legislation. His leadership in the Research Association of Criminal Procedure Law of China Law Society and his scholarly pursuits in criminal procedure law, evidence law, supervision law, Chinese judicial system history, and international criminal human rights law have greatly enriched the field. He has made significant contributions to training legal talents, developing procedural law, especially criminal procedure law, reforming and perfecting China's criminal justice system, strengthening the protection of human rights in criminal justice, and facilitating exchanges in procedural law both domestically and internationally. The books, An Oral Autobiography of Prof. Chen Guangzhong and Biography of Chen Guangzhong, chronicle the remarkable life journey of Prof. Chen Guangzhong, offering a comprehensive review and concise summary of his academic career and professional achievements.

The book debut was chaired by Prof. Xiong Qiuhong, Dean of the Institute of Procedural Law. President Ma Huaide delivered a warm welcome to the guests and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the authors and publishers of the two biographies. He commended Prof. Chen's profound impact on legal academia and legislative practices in China, highlighting his dedication to the rule of law and his role as both an educator and a legal scholar. He noted that Prof. Chen's life story embodies the spirit of an educator and jurist, characterized by a commitment to serving the greater good, loyalty to the ideals of the rule of law, and dedication to the nation.

The event witnessed the joint announcement of the official release of the two new books by a distinguished panel including Prof. Chen Guangzhong, President Ma Huaide, Wang Hongxiang, member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and Vice Chairman of the Constitution and Law Committee, Yang Wanming, Vice President of the Supreme People's Court, Chen Guoqing, Deputy Procurator-General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, Hu Weilie, Vice Minister of Justice, and Jing Dali, President of the China Society of Criminal Procedure Law.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Chen reflected on the writing process of the two biographies, acknowledging the diligent efforts of the authors and publishers. Prof. Chen expressed optimism for the continued prosperity and development of China's criminal procedure law and academic excellence, and reaffirmed his lifelong dedication to the advancement of the rule of law in China.
