On November 28, the 2nd International Conference on Big Data and Industrial Innovation was held in a mixed mode – a combination of virtual and on-site meeting at the Haidian campus, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL). The conference was co-sponsored by the Business School and the Research Office of CUPL. Seven foreign scholars from the United States, Italy, Israel, Singapore and Japan as well as over 20 domestic experts and scholars from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, Academy of Macroeconomic Research of the National Development and Reform Commission, Public Opinion Data Center of People's Daily Online, JD Research Institute, Kingsoft Cloud Financial Division, China Silver Industry Association and China Research Center on Aging gathered in the mixed meeting room to exchanged their views on the research and application of big data in different fields and charted the course for the future of big data around the theme of “Big Data and Industrial Innovation”.
As part of the series celebrating the 70th anniversary of CUPL, the conference attracted wide attention from inside and outside the university. Nearly one thousand people attended the conference online and offline, including experts and scholars, industrial insiders as well as teachers and students. CUPL Vice President Shi Jianzhong delivered a speech.
In the first session of the conference in the morning, foreign scholars gave keynote speeches. Chu Junhong, Dean of the Business School of National University of Singapore, Prof. Yair Tauman of Lehman University, Prof. Sougata Poddar of Chapman University, Tomoyuki Fukumo, former Director of the International Bureau of the Bank of Japan and professor of Osaka University of Economics, Associate Prof. Cai Xiaojing of Okayama University, Dr. David Wiczer of The State University of New York at Stony Brook, and Dr. Stefano Colombo of Università Cattolica shared their research findings in several aspects, including big data for travel, patent licensing for innovative technologies, digital money and its innovation, financial innovation in the era of digital economy, big data and labor markets, big data and algorithmic collusion, and etc.
In the second morning session, Chinese scholars presented keynote speeches. CUPL Prof. Wei Jianing, Academic Director of the Department of Industrial Economics of the Business School, Prof. Su Jian, Director of the National Economic Research Center of Peking University, Prof. Deng Guosheng of Tsinghua University and Vice Dean of the School of Public Policy and Management, and Zhu Taihui, researcher and Vice Director of JD Research Institute, expounded their views on innovative growth, industrial innovation and high-quality development, growth of social enterprises and rural industries, as well as digital economy and digital government respectively.
There were two parallel sessions in the afternoon. The topics were the innovative development of digital economy and digital industry as well as the frontiers of big data.
