In the afternnon of October 15, 2018, President Huang Jin met with Mr. Marcial Antonio Rubio Correa, Rector of Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), and his delegation at the Xueyuanlu Campus. The two sides signed a MOU on Academic Cooperation, which marked the official establishment of partnership.

President Huang first extended a warm welcome to Rector and his delegation for their first visit to CUPL. Then, he briefed the delegates on CUPL, including its history, achievements, faculty and talents, as well as the four Confucius Institutes operated by CUPL. President Huang said that, in recent years, CUPL has been implementing a strategic plan for internationalization. CUPL has also been actively participating in cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, or BRI, by advancing exchanges and
cooperation with prestigious universities of BRI participating countries (including Latin American countries). In terms of programs, with the objective of nurturing more legal professionals who are also fluent in Spanish for meeting the strategic need of the country, CUPL has set up the “Experimental Class of Spanish Legal Professionals”. Therefore, CUPL welcomes faculty and students from PUCP to visit and study in CUPL. In addition, with academic exchanges in the studies of law as a starting point, CUPL hope to expand cooperation in humanities and natural science in the futurefuture, and eventually promiting people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Rector Rubio Correa appreciated the warm reception and hospitality from CUPL. He then introduced the history, faculty and highlights of PUCP, as well as the Confucius Institute they have co-established. He briefly talked about the status quo of student exchange programs between the two countries. He said, PUCP is honored to establish bilateral partnership with CUPL. PUCP was prepared themselves to receive CUPL faculty and students, including language competence, teaching, research, and relevant administrative affairs. PUCP also expected to conduct further cooperation and exchanges in Economics, International Relations, Culture and Cross-Disciplinary programs.
Afterwards, the two parties also discussed in details the areas and modes of cooperation, and exchanged views on China-Peru Higher Education exchanges and inter-disciplinary education.

At the end of the meeting, President Huang Jin and Rector Rubio Correa signed the MOU on Academic Cooperation on behalf of the two universities. Mr. Augusto Castro, a Sociology Professor of PUCP, Prof. Ruben Tang, foreign Co-Director of the CI at PUCP, Prof. Huang Hao, Chinese Co-Director of the CI at PUCP, Prof. Xu Lan, Director of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange of CUPL, Prof. Xue Xiaojian, Vice-Dean of the Law School of CUPL, Prof. Xu Dan, Vice-Dean of School of International Studies of CUPL, and Associate Prof. Pan Deng from College of Comparative Law of CUPL also attended the meeting and the signing ceremony.
