CUPL Delegation Headed by Vice President Ma Huaide Visits Austria, Czech and Hungary

From April 19 to 27, 2018, CUPL Vice President Ma Huaide led a delegation to attend the 20th Joint Managerial Committee meeting and the 15th General Assembly meeting of CESL, visited Czech and Hungarian Universities, and paid an official call on Embassy of P.R.C. in Hungary.

The delegation participated in the General Assembly meeting and the JMC meeting of CESL hosted by one of our European partner Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) in Austria. Former Minister of Justice of P.R.C., Chinese Co-Chairperson of JMC Zhang Fusen, member of the committee Ma Huaide and Vice-Rector of WU Michael Lang each delivered a speech. More than 20 representatives in total, both Chinese representatives from National Prosecutors College (NPC) of P.R.C and school of law of Tsinghua University and the European counterparts from partner universities, attended the meetings. The two bodies mainly discussed the working report for recent years and the planning for sustainable development of the CESL in the future, and reached an early agreement with regard to the following arrangements and activities.

In Czech, the delegation were invited to visit Charles University in Prague (Univerzita Karlova), one of the oldest universities in the world, and met with Jan Škrha, Vice-Rector for international affairs, and Lenka Škrábalová, Head of International Relations Office. After reviewing the progress of cooperation in the past 9 years, both sides also had an in-depth discussion on possibilities of further cooperation in researches and education of humanities like political science, economics and so on, and exchange young scholars and students. The body also visited Faculty of law, meeting with Jan Kuklik, Dean of Faculty of Law, Milan Damohorsky, Vice-Dean for international relations, David Kohout, Head of the International Office of the faculty. Both parties exchanged views on Short-term Exchange Programs for teachers and students, Joint Doctoral Programs, Administrative Personnel Exchange Programs, admission to MA and PhD degrees, academic dialogues on Belt and Road Initiative, forging to sign a new cooperation agreement eventually.

During the visit to Hungary, the body also visited Eötvös Loránd University, a leading research university in Hungary, and met with Imre Hamar, Vice-Rector for international affairs. Associate Director of Research Center for Belt and Road Ms. YE Qiulan, and staff of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange (CUPL) also attended the meeting. Both sides conferred on possibilities of cooperation and exchanges, including seminars on Belt and Road Initiative, exchange students funded by Silk Road Scholarships to study at CUPL, Administrative Personnel Exchange Programs, Short-term Exchange Programs for teachers and accepting students from China-EU School of Law to study overseas for elective courses, etc. During the visit, both parties also signed Memoranda of Understandings on Academic Cooperation and Exchanges, establishing a cooperative relationship at university level officially. During the visit to Central European University (CEU), the body met with Karoly Bard, Head of Department of Legal Studies, and Tibor Tajti, the CEU Coordinator for China-EU School of Law(CESL). Both sides reviewed the progress of productive cooperation, and discussed Joint Doctoral Programs, the timetable for exchange students from CESL to study for elective courses at CEU, Short-term Exchange Programs for teachers, reaching consensus on cooperation of education and research of featured disciplines.

During the visit, the delegation also called on Mr.Duan Jielong, Chinese Ambassador to Hungary, to further understand the bilateral cultural and educational exchanges, and to accept suggestions about our cooperation and exchanges with Hungarian Universities. Vice President Ma Huaide was invited to lecture on the Rule of Law for the embassy staff. In addition, the delegation also met with CUPL students travelling to Hungry for studying short-term courses.
