Recently, the results for the 2014 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) were announced. Against all odds, and after a grueling 96 hours of competing without break (four days and four nights), 10 CUPL teams, composed by 30 students from our Business School, eventually were recognized with multiple designations, including 1 title of Meritorious solution, 4 titles of Honorable Mention, and 5 titles of Successful Participant. In this round of competition, Prof. Liu Shuhuan, a professor of CUPL's Department of Science and Technology, acted as the advisor of our varsity teams.
As an authoritative international contest in the field of mathematical modeling, the competition was conducted via mail communication. Thirty sessions have been successfully conducted since 1985, and students from top universities around the globe, such as Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Peking University, and Tsinghua University, took part in the annual event. According to the organizers, MCM 2014 attracted a stunning 7783 teams from 19 countries and regions worldwide.
