From March 27th to March 30th, 2014, the fifth international air law moot court competition was held in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. After three days’ fierce competition, the CUPL varsity team distinguished itself among the 18 competing teams from around the globe, getting second place.
In the semifinals held in Bucharest, the CUPL team was challenged by four teams including McGill University in Canada, and Delhi University in India. After four rounds of semifinal contests, the team took first in oral arguments. The team took second place in written arguments, with the highest overall score of these sections, earning them a place in the finals. In the final, the CUPL team conducted a heated debate with the team from the Leiden University in the Netherlands. The team narrowly missed out on victory after being bested by the rival team, making them the runner-up team for the contest.
The international air law moot court, sponsored jointly by the Leiden University and the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation, remains the only one of its own kind in the world, and is of considerable influence in the field of International Air Transportation.
