From March 9 to 12, 2013, the 4th International Air Law Moot Court Competition was held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. After an intense contest with Canada’s McGill University, the CUPL team beat the opponent and captured the first place crown.

The International Air Law Moot Court Competition was initiated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and is jointly sponsored by Leiden University in the Netherlands and the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation from India. It is the only such moot court competition of its kind around the globe. The Competition has been successively held four times and this was the second time that CUPL has a team participated.

McGill University team and Leiden University team, the world’s top two contestants in the field of aviation law studies, took part in this round of competition. This Abu Dhabi event was notable because it included the largest number of participating teams since the first competition. In the finals, CUPL competitors, with their excellent on the spot performance, their good mastery of legal knowledge, their fluent oral expression and their mature debating skills, impressed the judges and distinguished guests at the site. The CUPL team showed to the world Chinese students’ research level in the field of aviation laws. The three judges of the finals eventually delivered their per curiam decision and declared that our varsity team won the champion.
