Opening Ceremonies for CUPL’s 60th Anniversary

On May 16, 2011, CUPL Vice-President Ma Kangmei presided over CUPL’s 60th Anniversary celebration

at the Changping campus. Attendees included CUPL administrative officials, college and department administrators,

faculty, students, and alumni.

During the opening ceremonies, CUPL Deputy Director Li Xiuyun extolled the significance of the anniversary

celebration, and CUPL’s Director for External Affairs Liu Changmin explained the meaning of the anniversary emblem.

The emblem includes a relief of a soaring dragon and chanting phoenix. The school emblem is included in the

design as well as the number “6,” referring to 60 years. The soaring dragon symbolizes CUPL’s continuous

development since CUPL’s founding. The agility and elegance of the dragon and phoenix represents innovation,

determination, and greatness.

Chairman of the University Council Shi Yajun delivered a speech at the opening ceremonies, expressing his hope for

successful commemorative activities and his gratitude to the exceptional voluntary contributions made to the university

by individuals over the past 60 years. This anniversary, he noted, should not only rekindle memories, but inspire us

to plan and work ahead for CUPL’s future. Student representative Lu Yuanqiao, faculty repreentative Fang Liufang,

and alumni representative Hu Yiding also shared their thoughts and best wishes for commemorative events

over the next year.
