On November 15, 2011, Hamburg Mayor Olaf Scholz led a high-level delegation of business leaders and members
of the German Parliament to CUPL. Chairman of the University Council Shi Yajun welcomed the delegation
and praised Mayor Scholz for his academic vision and the German government’s trade emphasis.
Shi Yajun explained CUPL’s academic curriculum, faculty organization and accomplishments, and the university’s
increasing international focus. He also emphasized the important role played by the China-EU School of Law,
CUPL’s Comparative Law, and European partners—especially, German universities—and shared with the
delegation successful outcomes arising from these relationships. Mayor Scholz joined in these sentiments, expressing
his optimism and pledge of support regarding Hamburg municipal government’s future collaborations with CUPL.
In addition, Mayor Scholz expressed hope for continued successful use of existing facilities to further
increase academic and cultural exchanges between CUPL, China, and Germany.
The Hamburg mayor delivered a lecture titled "Arbitration in the German Legal System" to CUPL students and faculty.
CESL Co-dean Thomas Bruha presided over the forum.
