A well-known jurist in China and Tenured Professor of CUPL

Former President of CUPL

Prof. Jiang was born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province in 1930. He served as CUPL President from 1988 to 1990. From 1948 to 1949, he studied in the Journalism Department of Yan Jing University (the predecessor to Peking University). From 1951 to 1956, he studied in the Law School of Moscow State University. Professor Jiang is a trailblazer in the field of civil and commercial law.

His notable achievements include: the drafting of laws and legislation such as the General Provisions of the Civil Law, the Trust Law, the Contract Law and the Property Law; and providing guidance to the compilation of the Civil Code of the People’s Republic of China.

During his distinguished academic career, Prof. Jiang has delivered lectures at leading universities, such as Ghent University (Beligum), Hong Kong University (China), the University of Rome (Italy), Aoyama Gakuin University (Japan), and Columbia University (USA). He has been granted Honorary Doctorates of Law from Ghent University and University of Rome respectively and served as Honorary Professor of Law at the Catholic University of Peru.

Professor Jiang is currently a doctoral supervisor for civil and commercial law students. He also serves as Chairperson of the the Comparative Law Studies Institute of China Law Society and President of the Beijing Arbitration Commission.
