At the beginning of the event, teachers and students were invited to a virtual campus tour through a video. Then, Yu Chong, a faculty representative, expressed his best wishes to CUPLers on behalf of the CUPL faculty. Yu said that, during the COVID-19 pandemic, thanks to CUPLers’ dedication and persistence, the virtual classrooms and campuses of CUPL allowed students to attend classes from everywhere. This showcased the strength of CUPL and proved the saying that “CUPL stays with you wherever you go”.

The flag-raising ceremony began at 8:00 am. Faculty and students stood at attention, saluted the flag and sang the national anthem.

After the flag-raising ceremony, Wang Xue, a student from Guangming School of Journalism and Communication, spoke as the representative of Grade 2017 undergraduates. She said that we should bear in mind that “CUPL stays with you wherever you go” and work hard to devote ourselves to the lofty cause of strengthening the country, and striving for the goal of the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Hu Ming, Council Chair of CUPL, extended his sincere greetings and best wishes to all faculty, staff and students, and to CUPL alumni at home and abroad, as well as his heartfelt thanks to friends who have engaged themselves in supporting and facilitating the operation and development of the university. He pointed out that, faced with the unprecedented COVID-19, CUPL faculty, students, and alumni had worked together and at their own posts to ensure teaching, scientific research, management and logistics. CUPLers had been fighting on the front line of COVID-19 prevention and control through a variety of methods. By bearing our own responsibilities, all CUPLers paid tribute to the 68th birthday of the Alma mater. Council Chair Hu wished students to continue learning and practicing the important speech made by President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), during his visit to CUPL, so as to realize the goal of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. CUPLers should also integrate our youth dreams into the great Chinese dream in order to become youths who are aspiring and responsible. Hu said that, in a new historical phase, CUPL will stay true to its original aspiration of serving the motherland through education and take responsibility for fostering virtue through education. He also stressed that CUPL should step up the “Double First-Tier Initiative”, promote intensive development, and further modernize the university governance system and governance capacity so as to continue to work tirelessly towards the goal of a world-class law university.

Yin Yimeng, a student from the School of Political Science and Public Administration, said that at such a special moment, she participated in the 68th birthday celebration of CUPL by watching live streaming, which made her yearn to go back to campus as soon as possible.

Although we could not see each other face-to-face, we felt that CUPL was with us. Today, we sent our sincerest blessings from across the country. Happy birthday CUPL! Ge Zifei, a student from the Civil, Commercial and Economic Law School said that, “I saw the familiar campus through the lens after a few months, and I felt cordial. I hoped I could go back to our small but beautiful campus, and reunite with my teachers and partners. Wish CUPL every success and a happy birthday!”
