CUPL and Beijing No. 19 High School Collaborate to Develop a Legal Curriculum


On March 16, 2022, the course on Judges and Lawyers, a course jointly developed by China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and Beijing No. 19 High School was launched in Beijing No. 19 High School. Feng Shiyong, Vice President of CUPL, Gao Xinqiao, Council Chair and Principal of Beijing No. 19 High School, Chen Xuefen, Deputy Council Chair, and Wang Yongping, Vice Principal, attended the ceremony. Heads of relevant administrative offices, principal staff and course lecturers from the two schools and students of Beijing No. 19 High School also attended the event.

Joint efforts have been made to develop the course on Judges and Lawyers, which covers the job requirements and responsibilities of judges, compositions of courts, etc. The CUPL team made up of its faculty and 19 postgraduate students provided theoretical and practical support for the course.

Vice President Feng Shiyong stressed that the joint course must make full use of existing platforms and resources, such as the Rule of Law Education Base for Youth of the Ministry of Education and the Rule of Law Education and Research Center for Teachers of CUPL. With the concerted efforts of both sides, "we would like to see that the course on Judges and Lawyers become a quality course of rule of law education, and actively guide teenagers to respect, abide by, know, understand, learn and apply the law through lectures, participation, interaction and experiences of the rule of law education in theory and practice."

Principal Gao Xinqiao said, first, the course marked another outcome of the strategic cooperation agreement between CUPL and Beijing No. 19 High School, which provided a solid foundation for the two schools to strengthen cooperation. Second, the course was tailored and targeted for Beijing No. 19 High School, thus providing more opportunities and a wider range of perspectives and resources to the students. Finally, it is hoped that the law course will inspire students to understand the importance of "morality and law" and take the initiative to strengthen their moral integrity in a bid to cultivate better talents for building a country ruled by law.
