Seminar on International Narrative and a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind and the Third Seminar on International Chinese Language Education of CUPL

On March 19 and 20, the Seminar on International Narrative and a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind and the Third Seminar on International Chinese Language Education of CUPL, co-organized by the School of International Education, the Civil, Commercial and Economic Law School, the Office of Confucius Institutes, and the Office of International Cooperation, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) was successfully held online.

Opening Ceremony

On morning of March 19, Xu Lan, Dean of the School of International Education of CUPL, presided over the opening ceremony. Shi Jianzhong, Vice President of CUPL delivered a video speech at the opening ceremony. Shi hoped that the seminar can further summarize the international narrative models of international Chinese language education, better tell China’s stories to the world, and promote the advancements of international Chinese language education. In this way, the seminar would pool together the collective wisdom and contribute academic insights for building a community with a shared future for mankind and for the celebration of CUPL’s 70th birthday.

Zhao Guocheng, Deputy Director General of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) delivered a speech. He spoke highly of CUPL’s achievements attained from its disciplinary advantages in legal science and from its overseas Confucius Institutes. He wished CUPL could provide generous support for the Legal Research Base for International Chinese Language Education, thus building the Base into a high-end think tank as well as a legal boost and guarantee for international Chinese language education.

Sun Chunxiang, an Associate Professor from the School of International Education of CUPL moderated the keynote report session, during which seven experts and scholars delivered their keynote speeches. In the afternoon of March 19, Li Dandan, Director of CUPL Office of Confucius Institutes, moderated the roundtable discussion for the Chinese co-directors of the Confucius Institutes, in which seven Chinese co-directors made keynote speeches on relevant topics.

On March 20, six parallel-forums were successfully held, in which the participants exchanged ideas around the themes and shared their own research interests.

In the afternoon of March 20, Professor Li Juqian, Director of the Office of International Cooperation, CUPL, delivered the closing remark. He stated that CUPL will continue to build a platform for the exchange of ideas for experts and colleagues to join our hands for the improvement of the international influence of the Chinese language, for the development of China’s own discourse and narrative, for introducing the Chinese culture to the world, and for contributing wisdom and strength to building a community with a shared future for mankind.

This seminar received 77 thesis abstracts. Seventy-three speakers delivered speeches to nearly 1500 teachers and students online. The event demonstrated the theoretical advancements of international Chinese language education and the innovative achievements of CUPL, promoted academic exchanges and stimulated more innovation and creativity. CUPL was commended for providing quality international Chinese language education and the event was also a tribute to CUPL's 70th birthday.
