On November 18 (local time), the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest (CI at UB) and the School of Chinese Language and Literature (SCLL) jointly launched the opening ceremony of the International Symposium on “Reshaping the Tradition” at the School of Social Science at UB. Xu Feihong, Chinese Ambassador to Romania, Romita Iucu Bumbu, President of UB, and Gao Huanyue, Vice Council Chair of CUPL attended the ceremony. Participants also include some famous Chinese writers, such as Yu Hua, Cao Wenxuan, Xi Chuan and Lan Lan, as well as scholars and professors from Chinese Colleges, representatives of CIs at Romania and Central European countries, Romanian sinologists and staff and students from the CI and the SCLL at UB.

Gao Huanyue extended congratulations on the opening of the symposium and the 60 anniversary of the SCLL. She said that UB and CUPL had maintained sound cooperation. As the bilateral relation between the two countries has been becoming closer and the “Belt and Road Initiative” has been rolling out, CUPL has also been making its own contribution. The Confucius Institute co-established by CUPL and UB not only provided a platform of language teaching and culture promotion, but has also served as a bridge for academic exchanges and cooperation in terms of legal science, politics and philosophy.

After the opening ceremony, delegates all presented their congratulatory remarks and presents. They looked forward to SCLL and the CI at UB cultivating more talents who are proficient in languages and cultures. During the following meeting, the attendees were expected to conduct an academic dialogue centering on “Reshaping the Tradition”.
