On April 18 of local time, a workshop themed “A Tour of China” was held by CI (the Confucius Institute) in the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Barbados (UWI, Cave Hill). The students of the academic years 2014 and 2015, who majored in Chinese, participated in this event. The workshop helped the students to have a comprehensive understanding of Chinese history and culture. Meanwhile, their interest in history and culture also motivated them to attend the summer camp of the UWI Confucius Institute.
The workshop began with a presentation by CI teachers on China’s history. Then the lecture was followed with an introduction about the relationship between China and Barbados, experiences of studying in China, CI scholarships, common study experiences in China, summer camp programs and HSK examinations. The most delightful and enjoyable activities were “Learning Lecturer also taught Chinese Dialects and Daily Expressions” for students and “Quiz on Chinese history with Prizes." Participants gave prize-winning questions that brought the whole activity to a climax with bursts cheers and applause.
The workshop served to publicize CI's operation of the summer camps along with information concerning scholarships of CI and the arrangements of HSK examinations. The workshop also stimulated students’ enthusiasm to study the Chinese language. Many students said that they would spare no efforts to: learn the Chinese language, take the HSK examination and apply for a CI scholarship. They hope to further their study in China.
