CI at UB Stages an Ethnic Costume Show Titled “Colorful China” in Romania’s Parliament House

At three o' clock in the afternoon of February 5, 2016 (Romania local time), in a warm and happy atmosphere, an Ethnic Costume Show titled “Colorful China”, organized by the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest (CI at UB), was inaugurated at Romania’s Parliament House. Over 200 attendees from a cross-section of Romanian society attended the opening ceremony, which was presided over by the foreign Co-Director of the said CI at UB, Ms. Luminita Balan. Rector of the University of Bucharest (UB), Prof. Mircea Dumitru, the representative of the Romanian Ministry of Education & Scientific Research, Anca Pegulescu, the charged affaires of the embassy of China in Romania, Mr. Zeng Jixin, and Mr. Dong Jingbo, the Chinese Co-Director of the CI at UB addressed the audience by turns.

At the opening ceremony, teachers and students from the CI at UB, students who majored in Chinese at the UB Faculty of Foreign Languages & Literatures, as well as a group of international students who furthered their studies in Romania staged a brilliant performance with Chinese ethnic flavors for the local audience. The Chinese ethnic costume "catwalks”, showcased by teachers and students from the CI at UB, was the grand finale of the whole show.

The Ethnic Costume Show will last nearly a month, and will be highlighted and promoted in Romania’s Parliament House, on the website of the CI at UB and on "Face Book" simultaneously and continually. In the exhibition hall, minority garments were displayed in showcases, supplemented by a large number of pictures of ethnic dress with bilingual captions. The arrangement of exhibits was such that it allowed visitors to fully and directly appreciate the diversity of Chinese culture. The CI at UB will launch a series of related lectures and cultural experiencing classes, aiming to help Romanians to get a deeper understanding of a colorful China.
